Committee Corner

To each one of you, Troop 268 is led by our Senior Patrol Leader, Matt Wohlever and his youth staff, and Mr. Fletcher, the Scoutmaster and his adult assistants. While Troop 268 prides itself in being a "boy run" troop, there is large group of adults behind the scenes helping to make the Troop go. This group is the Troop Committee.

The Troop Committee is often compared to the board of directors of a corporation. The committee is responsible for providing a safe, nurturing environment to conduct the scouting program within the broad guidelines of the Boy Scouts of America. More specifically, the troop committee provides the resources to run the troop; including a building (thanks to the generosity of St. John's), trained adult leaders, equipment, and the $$$$s. Also the committee hosts our Courts of Honor, does fund raising, conducts Boards of Review (our primary contact with you!), and helps recruit new members. Our number one goal is to provide each one of you with the best scouting experience possible!

I recently replaced Mr. Davis as the Troop Committee chairman, and I'm still trying to figure out my job. The troop committee is made up primarily of your parents, and meets once a month usually during the troop meetings. My hope is for the "Committee Corner" to become a regular feature of the newsletter. In upcoming issues I hope to explain more about how the Troop Committee is organized and what exactly we do. Should you have any great ideas or have any suggestions on how to make the troop better, feel free to contact me or any other members of the troop committee. Happy Scouting!

RECENT EVENTS

Spring Camporee

Our last campout that we had was the Camporee. For most people we had a lot of fun even though it was scorching hot and the mosquitoes were eating us alive. The games were wonderful and I think most people enjoyed the games from the future. I had a great time and I’m sure the rest of the people who went on the campout had a great time also. We had 2 guests from troop 156. Their names were John Voight and Gil Travers. Most of the Beavers patrol came including Ian, Nick, Mark, Ryan, John, Todd, and Josh. Chris Wahoff also joined up with the Beavers for the Campout. Chip was the only member from the Soaring Eagles on the Campout. From the Cobras there was Matt, and Evan.

I encourage people who do not usually come to the meetings to come back. We have started having more fun at meetings. Just two weeks ago we had a meeting devoted to paper airplanes. This week we are having a game and skills challenge meeting. Even knots are a fun activity. So come back. You don’t know what could be next.
